September 24, 2015 I’m off to Lesbos after weeks of emails, calls, reading and preparation. My first thoughts are about what I am leaving behind — Portugal and the Portuguese. I have spent the past month glued to my email to check incoming mail from Greece, and have been reading the BBC online and watching Euronews and Portuguese news on television. Coverage of the refugee crisis by the Portuguese news channels has been extensive and balanced. This is generally the case with international news covered by the Portuguese media.
